In 2011, Anne started her post-punk female band ‘ The Veees’ inspired by the South Bronx post punk funk female band ESG
“I first saw ESG playing in an intimate gig in London in 1998 and just fell in love with the bass and quirky rhythms. It was one of my dreams to work with ESG so when they came to play in Bristol in September 2015, I contacted Renee Scroggins ( ESG band founder) and sent her ‘The Veees’ debut album hoping that she would notice it. The next thing, I received back an email from Renee saying: ” I love it your music, do you want to tour with us? we need a backing vocalist next week.” We played in Bristol, London, Manchester, Brighton, Paris and Barcelona.
The Veees released their first track ‘Comme Ci, Comme Ca’ on invada records after being spotted by musician & producer Geoff Barrow (Portishead, BEAK>, Ex Machina ). The Veees’ debut album was mixed by Jim Barr (Portishead), available on Bandcamp and on Environmental Studies, Paul Horlick’s homegrown music label from Bristol.
In 1998, Anne also did some backing vocals for the Aphex Twin on his epic track ‘Windowlicker’ and on his ‘Druks’ album.
